Computer Literacy
Students completing the computer literacy course receive an ISO course certificate, which enables them to pursue further studies and/or take up a job.
Tailoring
Tailoring is another popular vocational course especially among young girls and rural women. It is a specialized course that provides them with the skills and knowledge needed to design, create, alter and repair garments. Every student receives an ISO course certificate on completion of the course. The course provides practical training in cutting, stitching, designing and sewing techniques, thereby preparing them for careers in design, tailoring and entrepreneurship.
Sports
Sports are a vital aspect in education. At ALC, games like cricket and volleyball are encouraged to encourage youth to channel their energy and promote physical health and develop essential life skills. Games teach teamwork, leadership, patience, and discipline and provide overall development of mind and body. Students are encouraged to participate in inter-school tournaments and activities which fosters inclusivity, a sense of competition, self confidence and helps them face life’s challenges better.
Spoken English Communication
Language skills put one in a better position to communicate with people, and a clear advantage while seeking employment. While the rural folks around Magadi mostly speak the local language Kannada very fluently, the knowledge of good spoken English is aspirational and useful. It gives them an edge, fosters confidence and prepares them for future interactions in more urban environments. At ALC, spoken English classes are conducted to teach and polish pronunciation, choose the right words and express themselves in an informal, free-flowing, interactive atmosphere in the outdoors, while exploring nature and birding.
Art & Craft
Art & Craft as a subject is aimed at keeping young minds engaged in creative activities. From recycling and repurposing fabric and cardboard boxes into beautiful utilitarian items to encouraging art – sketching and painting, students are given opportunities to explore their own creativity, observe their surroundings and nature and find ways to express themselves through art. The whole process is immersive, encourages concentration, helps combat emotional stress and provides a creative outlet. This subject aids personality development and builds individual expression.
